The year 2024 was a crucial moment for sustainable development. All the three Rio sister conventions on climate change, biodiversity and combating desertification convened to discuss the way forward in taking positive actions. Despite arriving at a less than expected new climate finance goal, COP29, however, managed to reach an agreement on operationalizing global carbon markets.
At the UN, member states re-affirmed their commitment and resolve to "resolve to set ourselves on that path, striving for a world that is safe, peaceful, just, equal, inclusive, sustainable and prosperous, a world in which well-being, security and dignity and a healthy planet are assured for all" via the 'Pact for the Future' agreed upon during the Summit of the Future in New York.
Likewise, for TERI, 2024 witnessed some defining moments. We are proud to have celebrated our golden jubilee in June 2024, where leaders gathered to commend the 50-year journey of TERI's solutions for sustainable development.
Throughout 2024, TERI Council for Business Sustainability strived to ensure that pressing concerns relating to energy transition, sustainable agriculture practices, water-use efficiency and more were embedded in our engagements with the corporate world, and with our partners. During this time, TERI Council for Business Sustainability (CBS) witnessed enthused participation of national and global partners along with government stakeholders at the subnational, national and regional levels. Across the year, the network of TERI CBS helped build a system that provides policymakers with reliable, relevant and real-world evidence from businesses to support the translation of NDCs and sustainability goals into effective policies and regulations, and the Council aims to keep strengthening this system in years ahead.
At an aggregate level, the Council organised 45+ convening, while reaching out to over 170 + companies in the CBS Network. Glimpses of the key moments and outcomes of TERI CBS engagements from 2024 can be accessed below
