SDG 13. CLIMATE ACTION

National Policy Interface

  • Various risk mitigation strategies and adaptation practices that can be adopted include expanding the coverage of crops included in Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
  • Transitioning from indemnity-based insurance to index-based insurance mechanisms can streamline the claims process.
  • integrating a Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (MHEWS) within the National Disaster Management Plan (NDMP) can be essential to provide timely alerts and response mechanisms for various agricultural risks and potential associated effects.
  • A vulnerability matrix can be developed by Climate Change and Sustainable Agriculture: Monitoring, Modelling and Networking (CCSAMMN) and National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change (NMSKCC) to map and track the amount of productivity lost in agriculture due to slow-onset events and devise methods on how international funds can compensate for the loss to the farmers.
