Remembering Dr Manmohan Singh

TERI is deeply saddened by the demise of former Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh. A visionary economist and a stalwart leader, Dr Singh served our nation with unparalleled dedication and integrity. His tenure as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 was marked by significant economic reforms that paved India’s way to become a global powerhouse.

Dr Singh shared TERI’s vision for a greener and sustainable planet. His policies advocated for renewable energy and reducing our carbon footprint. His legacy serves as a guiding light for our ongoing and future endeavours in implementing a sustainable approach to development. Dr Singh and TERI have had a long and fruitful association. He was a true friend to the Institute, a compassionate soul who deeply understood the impact of TERI’s work and the difference it made. He was conferred the Sustainable Development Leadership Award at DSDS, 2011 – now the World Sustainable Development Summit. He shared our vision for a greener planet and how we needed to nurture it.

Dr Singh remained a champion of our cause, even after he finished his term as the Prime Minister and attended future editions of the WSDS. Dr Pachauri, one of the founding pillars of our organization -- a great friend of Dr Singh -- always admired his academic zeal, his resilience, gentle spirit and the countless lives he touched. Dr Singh also facilitated the building of TERI’s Bio-Resource Centre, Guwahati, for which we at TERI remain forever thankful.

A scholar at heart, his policies and wisdom have left an indelible mark on our nation's history and will be remembered by generations to come.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
