Agri-Photovoltaics (AgriPV): Harmonizing Energy and Food Security
Agri-Photovoltaics (AgriPV) offers a land-efficient pathway for sustainable development by enabling the co-location of solar power generation and crop cultivation. This dual-use approach facilitates renewable energy expansion without displacing vital farmland or compromising national food security.
Global warming is significantly altering precipitation patterns, making wet regions wetter and increasing aridity in dry areas. This research project investigates the impacts of Solar Radiation Modification (SRM) specifically Stratospheric Aerosol Injection (SAI) on monsoon systems. By utilizing high-resolution climate models, we aim to provide a detailed understanding of how cooling the planet might modulate the fundamental physical drivers of extreme weather.
The Education for Youth Empowerment (EYE) Area of Environment Education and Awareness (EEA) Division at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has designed a summer programme that enables school students to gain knowledge, enhance their skillsets and obtain access to resources and networks to strengthen their competencies on issues related to environment and sustainable development.
Refex Green Power Limited engaged TERI to conduct a comprehensive waste characterization study, including physical and chemical analysis and BMP assessment of municipal solid waste (MSW) across three major cities in Tamil Nadu- Salem, Coimbatore, and Madurai. The study was undertaken to evaluate the suitability of MSW as feedstock for compressed biogas (CBG) plant installation and to support the development of sustainable waste-to-energy solutions.
Sensitization Programmes on Understanding the Impact of Climate Change on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services
The Department of Environment, Government of NCT of Delhi, has launched a prestigious flagship initiative titled, ‘Sensitization Programmes on Understanding Impact of Climate Change on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services for Eco-club Students.’ This project is strategically designed to impart deep environmental awareness and instill long-term behavioral changes amongst the city's young citizenry.
This project was a multi-country initiative. It focused on advancing BIPV adoption across the Global South through technical assessment, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building, enabling climate-responsive urban energy transition pathways. The following are the activities performed under this project:-
The objective of the initiative is to catalyse green growth in the state of Assam through innovations such as green budgeting, Green Public Procurement (GPP), and sensitization on green finance mechanisms. While environment departments generally have the mandate to deal with issues related to climate change, sustainable development, and similar areas, their locus standi on implementation is comparatively weak due to the low budget allocations they receive.
Project Overview
India is experiencing rapid economic growth and is among the fastest growing economies globally. Over the past two decades, the country has witnessed substantial expansion driven by accelerated urbanisation. According to the United Nations, more than 50% of India’s population is expected to be reside in cities and towns by 2050, reflecting the pace of urban transition.
‘Climate Skills – Seeds for a Transition’ is a global, multi-city initiative being implemented across India, Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Supported by the British Council and HSBC, and implemented in partnership with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), TERI School of Advanced Studies, Mumbai University, and HSNC University, the programme aims to strengthen youth capacities in climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resilience.
Youth from across the country joined together for the 5th Edition of Youth Climate Conclave (2024 – 25), which was held on 02 – 04 March 2024 to discuss and deliberate on the most pressing issues related to climate action. The ‘Youth Pledge’, which was drafted as part of the Conclave, was presented at the World Sustainable Development Summit 2025 (05 – 07 March 2025) during the valedictory session ‘WSDS@25 and Driving Impact through Multistakeholder Dialogues’ on 07 March 2025.
