The project is designed to promote sustainable agroforestry by encouraging tree plantation on agricultural lands, while generating measurable climate mitigation benefits and enhancing rural livelihoods. Implemented as an Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation initiative under the Voluntary Carbon Market framework, it focuses on establishing tree plantations to enhance carbon sequestration, improve farm productivity, and deliver co-benefits such as biodiversity conservation and soil health restoration.
The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), in partnership with the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), and other local stakeholders, is implementing an initiative to plan and develop Clean Air Zones (CAZs) in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
Strengthening India’s Innovation Ecosystem: The National S&T Survey
The National Science and Technology (S&T) Survey is a flagship initiative designed to systematically map the resources fueling India’s research and development (R&D) landscape. By capturing high-quality data on expenditure, manpower, and infrastructure, the survey provides the empirical foundation necessary to monitor the national innovation ecosystem and benchmark India’s progress against global standards.
The development of a detailed CAZ (clean air zone) plan would focus on measures related to traffic and transportation (such as pedestrianization, cycle tracks, and EV mobility), urban planning (land use plans, heritage conservation), emission control, air quality monitoring and dust control. Through this plan, the program seeks to prioritize solutions based on emission reduction to enhance air quality in the study area. This approach aligns with sectoral sustainability goals by addressing environmental, social, and economic aspects of urban air quality improvement.
Hindustan Zinc is the World’s largest and India’s only integrated zinc producer. The organization has collaborated with TERI for the development of a green belt over Jarofix Dump Site 2 at CLZS Chanderiya, Rajasthan. The project aims restoration of industrial wasteland using mycorrhizal technology to transform environmentally hazardous waste site into biologically active and ecologically stable area, contributing to sustainable land management and environmental protection.
'Simplifying Sustainability’ is a radio campaign from The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), in association with 92.7 BIG FM.
The initiative aims to make sustainable practices easier to understand and implement in everyday life.
The objective of the project is to accelerate transition of Indian industry sector to a low carbon pathway by an integrated approach which focuses on decarbonizing the energy intensive industries (steel, cement) including associated value chains.
TERI has developed Solar-biomass hybrid dryer with thermal energy storage for rural tribal communities, women and differently-abled persons. The integrated system has a Thermal Energy Storage (TES) device and a Biomass-based Heat Exchange (B-HE) system. These components are integrated with a solar dryer developed by SEED for continuous operation and efficient utilization of the hybrid system in food drying and increasing the capacity utilization factor of the system.
To develop an energy-economy inter-linked decarbonization roadmap for India for its short (2030), medium (2047), and long (2070) term. An integrated energy-climate-economy modelling framework will be developed for simulating the impacts of exogenous circumstances, global climate policies, national policies, and technology development on India’s energy supply and demand, GHG emissions, and impacts on policy relevant macroeconomic variables.
