Towards Sustainable, Equitable, and Resilient Blue Growth
The Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water emphasizes the conservation and sustainable use of ocean and marine resources. Its targets include preventing overexploitation of fish stocks, conserving coastal and marine ecosystems, eliminating harmful fishing subsidies, and ensuring equitable access for small-scale fishers. Collectively, these objectives aim to promote sustainable fisheries, biodiversity conservation, and inclusive governance to safeguard ocean health and enhance coastal livelihoods.
Air pollution remains one of the most pressing environmental challenges affecting urban health, economic productivity, and overall quality of life in Indian cities. Visakhapatnam, a prominent industrial and coastal hub in Andhra Pradesh, is no exception. As the city continues to expand, it faces persistent air quality issues driven primarily by emissions from industrial activities, including heavy manufacturing, port operations, and thermal power generation.
Manipur’s First Spring Census and Feasibility Study for Sustainable Springshed Management
Manipur is endowed with abundant natural springs that play a critical role in sustaining both human communities and ecological systems. Located at the confluence of the Indo-Burma and Eastern Himalayan biodiversity hotspots, the state’s topography—characterized by north-south aligned ridges and tropical rainforests—creates ideal conditions for numerous springs, streams, and waterfalls.
Global warming is significantly altering precipitation patterns, making wet regions wetter and increasing aridity in dry areas. This research project investigates the impacts of Solar Radiation Modification (SRM) specifically Stratospheric Aerosol Injection (SAI) on monsoon systems. By utilizing high-resolution climate models, we aim to provide a detailed understanding of how cooling the planet might modulate the fundamental physical drivers of extreme weather.
The Education for Youth Empowerment (EYE) Area of Environment Education and Awareness (EEA) Division at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has designed a summer programme that enables school students to gain knowledge, enhance their skillsets and obtain access to resources and networks to strengthen their competencies on issues related to environment and sustainable development.
TERI EIACP (Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme) secured the First Prize at the National Evaluation Workshop 2025-26 organised by Sulabh- International Institute of Health and Hygiene (IIHH)-EIACP and JNU-EIACP, under the aegis of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) from 15th-17th March, 2026 at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
The objective of the initiative is to catalyse green growth in the state of Assam through innovations such as green budgeting, Green Public Procurement (GPP), and sensitization on green finance mechanisms. While environment departments generally have the mandate to deal with issues related to climate change, sustainable development, and similar areas, their locus standi on implementation is comparatively weak due to the low budget allocations they receive.
“Climate Skills Seeds for Transition” is a multi-city, global programme active in India, Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Supported by the British Council and HSBC, and implemented in partnership with TERI, TERI School of Advanced Studies, Mumbai University, and HSNC University, the initiative aims to foster a comprehensive approach to youth skills development in climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resilience. In India, the programme conducted a series of regional workshops across Goa, Bangalore, Bhopal, Delhi, and Guwahati.
Youth from across the country joined together for the 5th Edition of Youth Climate Conclave (2024 – 25), which was held on 02 – 04 March 2024 to discuss and deliberate on the most pressing issues related to climate action. The ‘Youth Pledge’, which was drafted as part of the Conclave, was presented at the World Sustainable Development Summit 2025 (05 – 07 March 2025) during the valedictory session ‘WSDS@25 and Driving Impact through Multistakeholder Dialogues’ on 07 March 2025.
Mission for High Impact Areas (MAHA): Advancing EV Mobility in India
The Mission for High Impact Areas (MAHA) program, under the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), is a priority-driven initiative designed to address urgent scientific and technological challenges through targeted, high-impact solutions. Unlike general research mandates, MAHA fosters a collaborative ecosystem, bringing together researchers and academicians from diverse fields to leverage collective expertise, drive innovation, and deliver tangible results.
