This project would essentially characterize the arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungal germplasm collected over a period of 10 years in the Centre for Mycorrhizal Culture Collection (CMCC) at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).

TERI with the support of the Department of Biotechnology has developed a bio-pesticide from the extracts of eucalyptus leaves. The technology has been tested in the field and is the outcome of 10 years of hard work of the dedicated team working at TERI. The first technology transfer took place on 2 November 2007 in the presence of Dr M K Bhan, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology. The technology docket transfer took place on 13 November 2007 in the presence of Hon'ble Minister of Science and Technology, Shri Kapil Sibal.

TERI together with partners SUI (Sustainable Urbanism International) and Arghyam with support from Dr Nandan Nilekani and Mrs Rohini Nilekani, initiated this study in March 2008, to address sustainability issues in Indian cities. The concept of sustainable cities represents an overarching challenge and includes addressing social, environmental and economic sustainability concerns along with the interlinkages between them.

The main objective of this project is to identify the best areas for setting-up solar projects of a minimum 5MW in Gujarat and Rajasthan using requisite solar and other data, and thereafter recommend and prepare the detailed proejct report the selected location.

The objective is to throw light on the existing genetic diversity in tea and help in taking proper action towards its conservation and utilization. This would be achieved through analysing the genetic diversity of existing tea germplasm using the AFLP-based markers. The project involves characterizing about 2000 accessions conserved at the Tea Experimental Station, Tocklai, Jorhat, Assam, and also a few other accessions from other tea research institutes.

An awareness programme on Climate Change, the Sunfeast Hara Banao campaign reaches out to 550 schools in 10 cities. Through teacher training workshops and a host of teaching aids such as a film, posters, fact sheets and interesting project ideas, awareness on the issue is being created among students between Std III - VIII in each of the project schools. Schools are encouraged to take up projects and many inter-school competitions will be conducted through the course of the project.

TERI is required to act as consultant, first, for successful introduction of a new gasification technology for thermal and electrical purposes and second, activities that put in place the conditions for replication of the first activity. Gasification component focuses on the design and implementation of three demonstration projects as well as identifying and designing activities required for replication of the demonstration projects.
