Lighting a Billion Lives in service of Biodiversity Conservation

LaBL is reaching national parks and wildlife sanctuaries across the country to strengthen the existing institutions for biodiversity conservation. Solar charging stations provide sufficient incentive to village communities residing around these nature reserves to work in accord with the forest departments as well as local NGOs working towards conservation.GCN: Low Carbon Jobs and Finance

This project is a part of the GCN's 2009/10 research programme. It focuses on assessing the economic opportunities presented by the transition to a low carbon future. The aim of the project is three fold:1. To show and estimate the scale of the potential for job creation in key, low carbon industrial sectors in India
2. To demonstrate the interlocking nature of low carbon employment opportunities using international analysis of how global value and supply chains in low carbon sectors

Framing a blueprint for the turnaround of power sector in Jammu and Kashmir

The several operational inefficiencies and the large revenue gaps in the power sector of Jammu and Kashmir have hampered the financial stability of the sector. Following which, the Power Development Department, Government of Jammu and Kashmir commissioned TERI to carry out an assessment of technical and financial performance of the power sector in the state in 2009, which is characterized by operational inefficiencies and develop a roadmap for turnaround.Design and monitor rainwater harvesting implementation at BSES grid station in Common Wealth village

The aim of the project is to provide an action plan and design for implementation of rainwater harvesting and water conservation measures at BSES Power Station in Commonwealth Village, New Delhi.Specific objectives of the project are:
a) Lower operating costs by reducing dependence on tankers and DJB piped water supply
b) Give BSES greater ownership and control over its water supply
c) Decrease the environmental impact of BSES power station with regards to Water.
Detailed survey regarding present status of Jatropha plantation in nine states of India

The main objective of this project is to conduct a detailed survey regarding the status of Jatropha plantations in nine states of India - Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Rajathan, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. The secondary data collection would include: extent of coverage of Jatropha and Pongamia plantations, type and ownership of land, plantation on government land, etc. The primary data collection would include: survival percentage of plants, yield per hectare, average plant height, etc.Training Workshop on advances in Biotechnology

In vitro regeneration of economically important bamboo species: Dendrocalamus giganteus and Bambusa tulda

The overall objective of the project is to develop micropropagation protocols for Dendrocalamus giganteus and Bambusa tulda. However, the specific objectives of the study are as follows : 1. Collection of experimental material (seeds/nodal segments) of Dendrocalamus giganteus and B. tulda and its establishment at TERIs research station at Gurgaon 2. Develop procedures of in vitro culture initiation 3. Standardize the process of shoot multiplication by axillary branching method followed by rooting of shoots 4.Setting up of Biomethanation plant at CIDCO Bhavan for management of canteen waste
