| Energy Efficiency

TERI and IGES, along with interested stakeholders from India and Japan, will operationalize the Japan-India Technology Matchmaking Platform (JITMAP) which was initiated in the Financial Year 2016 to promote the dissemination of Japanese low carbon technology in India. Specifically the following key activities will be conducted in the Financial Year 2017: (i) Information collection and sharing; (ii) Feasibility studies; (iii) Dissemination and capacity building; (iv) Outreach activities.

Transforming Pathardi Village into a Model Village

June 13, 2017
| Health & Nutrition

TERI has been extensively working in Pathardi village, Mokhada in Palghar for over 4 years implementing several projects to make the village sustainable in terms of food, energy and water security. Creating better livelihood opportunities for the villagers of Pathardi, especially the women, are important in order to achieve the broader objectives of the project. Sustainable livelihood generation ensures a better shock and stress adaptability, better nutrition for the family members, better access to health services and the resultant low morbidity, thus leading to a better quality of life.

Habitat Model for Efficiency and Comfort

The project aims to provide Indian building market with external shading products that can reduce direct solar heat gain inside a building by more than 75%, while allowing natural daylight; and to design and demonstrate the potential of low energy radiant slab cooling, integrated with natural heat sinks and establish their operational mechanism for optimum comfort and energy efficiency.

ONGC Foundation-TERI-Green School Project

| Energy Access
| Energy

TERI in collaboration with ONGC aims to achieve the following specific objectives: 1. To bring improved, clean, and affordable energy to identified secondary schools in Golaghat and Sibsagar through installation of a solar power plant in each school; 2. To improve the knowledge of the school authorities and children in solar energy and create a conducive atmosphere for learning and development of children; 3. To enhance ONGC's visibility in the region through appropriate branding and promotion of their CSR vision.

Consultancy Assignment to study “Economic Rate of Return for various Renewable Energy Technologies”

June 7, 2017
| Energy
| Environment

The project objective is to study the Economic Rate of Return (ERR) for various Renewable Energy Technologies (RETs) in India. The study comprises determination of Financial Rate of Return (FRR) for various RETs (solar/wind/biomass/ small hydro etc.) based on primary research and estimation of ERR based on secondary research of socio-economic costs and benefits from each RET, e.g. savings in carbon emissions, local air pollution, avoided health impacts, employment generation etc.

Traffic and air quality in India: Technologies and attitudes (TAQIITA) (Indo-Finland collaborative project)

| Environment

Fine particulate matter is the pollutant of most concern in developing countries today on the basis of exposure, toxicity, and ambient concentrations. Two major contributors in transport to fine particulate air pollution are diesel vehicles and two-stroke engine gasoline vehicles. Due to strong motorization, India has become one of the biggest emitters of atmospheric pollutants. The country's fuel consumption in the transport sector has approximately doubled in every ten years since 1980.

Preparing action plan against air pollution in Ludhiana, Punjab

June 1, 2017
| Environment

The main objectives of the proposed study are to: a. measure air pollutants concentrations (criteria pollutants) at different area categories of Ludhiana city b. prepare grid-wise emission inventory accounting for various pollution sources in Ludhiana city c. project emission inventories for future under different control options d. conduct source apportionment study of particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) e. preparation of an air quality action plan after prioritising of control options

Cleaning up our rivers

May 26, 2017

India is blessed with 14 major, 55 minor and numerous small rivers. However, many of these rivers are polluted due to disposal of sewage into these water bodies. There is no sign of river pollution being stopped. It is increasing day by day. There are several sources of water pollution, which deteriorate the river water quality. Industries discharge their liquid waste products into rivers. Our agriculture practice that uses chemical fertilizers and pesticides also contribute to river pollution as rainwater drains these chemicals into the rivers.

BIGASTORE: Biogas driven cold storages for Sub Zero applications in India

May 22, 2017

The objective of the proposed project is to design and engineer cold storage container using bio-waste as energy source. Using bio-waste as energy source reduces high losses in food production and storage that is caused due to missing cold storage and cooling chains in developing and emerging countries. Such countries are also affected by a lack of bio-waste treatment and uncontrolled dumping, which highly compromises on the hygiene of the public. As bio-waste and cooling demand often occur at the same time in the food industry (e.g.
