Ecological footprint: establishing a tool to measure and manage urban energy use in India and China

The overall scope of the study would be - * to examine the energy consumption patterns in select cities in the household sector, including movement of people, and * to explore how the ecological footprint can be used as a tool to communicate the benefits of use of energy efficient techniques and adopting demand management practices.
CDM Training Program

TERI organized a half-day training program for senior officials of government of Haryana. The objective of the program was to sensitize the government officials about the CDM opportunities. The training programme gave an introduction to the CDM and its modalities and procedures, specific opportunities and issues in power sector, renewable energy and forestry sectors.
Wastewater treatment in membrane bioreactor using low-cost membranes

MBR technology is one of the major wastewater treatment solutions that has received considerable attention in US, Europe and Asia (Japan, China, Korea) since the early 1990s. At present, there are over 2000 MBRs operational worldwide for both municipal / domestic and industrial wastewater treatment (mainly food processing, automotive, chemical industries).

The Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) is operating three thermal power stations, namely Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant, Bhatinda (4x110 MW), Guru Hargobind Thermal Power Plant, Lehra Mohabbat (2x210 MW), and Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant, Ropar (6x210 MW).
Development of biodegradable soy flour composites for short-term applications

The disposal of plastic waste has become a major environmental concern, considering the ever-increasing consumption of plastics. Bioplastics like PHB (polyhydroxy butyrate) from microbial sources is a viable alternative but they are expensive. An alternative is to use cheaper and naturally available renewable biopolymers from agricultural feedstocks like starch, amylose, soyflour etc.
New risks of climate change - building capacity to protect the most vulnerable

the rural poor in developing countries can be made less vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change through judicious natural resource management policies and access to risk transfer mechanisms. However, this requires capacity building of policymakers and practitioners not directly dealing with climate change issues.
