Understanding Linkages Between Sustainability and Traditional Ethnoecological Knowledge (TEK): A Case Study of Paudi Bhuyans in Northern Odisha, India

Kahlon L K, Singh R
| 2021

Studies based on Traditional Ethnoecological Knowledge (TEK) systems help in development of critical, evaluative, and creative thinkin skillgs, so as to aid policy decisions around sustainable solutions. Sustainable development framework outlined under Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) presents an opportunity to experiment and evolve pathways promoting resource efficiency measures that hold a hope for a better tomorrow.

Farooqui Akif, Shardul Martand, Chatterjee Prodip, Veerupaksha Darpan
| 2021

In this article, the authors discussed about battery powered mobility in India and opine that our planning for the mammoth task of handling used batteries from electronic equipment, electronic vehicles, and solar facilities that have an integrated battery storage system will be defined for the planet's health.

Achieving SDGs in water and sanitation sectors in India

Sarkar S K, Bharat Girija K
| 2021

India, with over 1.37 billion population and housing one-sixth of the world’s inhabitants, has a significant role to play in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This paper analyses the policies and programmes of the Government of India, towards the achievement of Targets 6.1 and 6.2 of SDG-6 that focus on safe drinking water and sanitation. The alignment of the policies and programmes is discussed in correlation of the output, outcome, and impacts on these targets of SDG 6. The Swachh Bharat (Clean India) Mission (SBM)

Characterization of an Endophytic Strain Talaromyces assiutensis, CPEF04 With Evaluation of Production Medium for Extracellular Red Pigments Having Antimicrobial and Anticancer Properties

Considering the worldwide demand for colorants of natural origin, the utilization of ascomycete fungi as a prolific pigment producer unfolds a novel way to obtain these pigments for various applications, including food, cosmetic, and medical use. The presence of very few natural red pigment alternatives in the market also attracts research and industry priorities to unearth novel and sustainable red pigment producers. The present work is an attempt to identify a novel source of red color obtained from endophytic fungi isolated from terrestrial and marine habitats.

Air quality forecasting using artificial neural networks with real time dynamic error correction in highly polluted regions

Agarwal Shivang, Sharma Sumit, R Suresh, Rahman Md H, Vranckx Stijn, Maiheu Bino, Blyth Lisa, Janssen Stijn, Gargava Prashant, Shukla V.K., Batra Sakshi
| 2021

Air pollution is an important issue, especially in megacities across the world. There are emission sources within and also in the regions around these cities, which cause fluctuations in air quality based on prevailing meteorological conditions. Short term air quality forecasting is used not to just possibly mitigate forthcoming high air pollution episodes, but also to plan for reduced exposures of residents.

Nanoscale 2D semi-conductors – Impact of structural properties on light propagation depth and photocatalytic performance

Kumari Priyanka, Bahadur Nupur, O'Dell Luke A, Kong Lingxue, Sadak Abu, Merenda Andrea, Dumée Ludovic F
| 2021

The performance of photocatalytic materials are largely dictated by the crystalline and optical properties of the semi-conductors. The density of photo-generated electron and hole pairs is greatly influenced by the light penetration in photocatalytic material, leading to specific degradation kinetics. In this work, the relationship between the metal oxide film thickness and the overall materials optical and photocatalytic performances are systematically established for the first time.
