Preservation of freshwater ecosystems in Navi Mumbai for sustainable resource utilization
The salient features of the project:
1. The project is the first unique demonstration effort in the entire MMR (Mumbai Metropolitan Region).
2. Setting up of an ERC focusing on fresh water ecosystems with an objective to generate scientific information through research, compilation of data in the form of a database and books, dissemination of information through awareness programs for educational institutions & visitors to the centre. ERC would organize special nature trails for students.
3. Developing a comprehensive revenue generating model by creating recreational facilities such as boating, theme park & cafeteria to ensure self sustainability.
4. Integration of green technologies, green building concepts, exploring possibilities of rainwater harvesting, renewable energy applications, responsible disposal of biodegradable waste through composting or Biomethanation.
5. Developing a dedicated project portal for uploading the relevant information.
6. Public participation and awareness at various stages of the project.
