Uttarakhand
The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in association with the Department of Urban Development, Government of Uttarakhand conducted a training program on ‘Building Urban Climate Change Resilience in India' on April 8-10, 2015 in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
This program was supported by the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) under their CAPaBLE Program. The training was targeted towards bridging the science-policy divide by sensitizing the city and state level decision-makers about the application of climate change science into urban development planning and decision making.
This three day capacity building program was designed and delivered in two parts- A day long orientation program for the elected representatives and two days long training program for the municipal officials from the municipalities and municipal corporation in the State of Uttarakhand. The opening session of the training program was presided over by Shri. Pritam Pawar, Honourable Minister, Urban Development and Shri D S Garbyal, Secretary, Urban Development Department, Government of Uttrakhand. Shri Pawar, in his key note address, stated that it is imperative for that state of Uttarakhand to gear up its planning activities towards climate resilience and looks at integrating components of disaster risk reduction in development planning. He extended his support to institutions like TERI in their related activities in the state and in preparing robust plans towards climate resilience and disaster preparedness and management in the state. The training program for the Municipal officials sensitized the officials on the issues and impacts related to climate change and the importance of adaptation interventions for the urban areas. The participants were awarded with a certificate upon completion of the program.
