The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in association with Yashwantarao Chavan Academy for Development Administration (YASHADA),Government of Maharashtra conducted a training program on ‘Building Urban Climate Change Resilience in India' on May 18-19, 2015 in Pune, Maharashtra.
This program was supported by the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) under their CAPaBLE Program. The training was targeted towards bridging the science-policy divide by sensitizing the city and state level decision-makers about the application of climate change science into urban development planning and decision making.
This two day capacity building program was designed and delivered in two parts-the first day an orientation program for the elected representatives and the second day a training program for the municipal officials from the municipalities and municipal corporation in the State of Maharashtra.
The opening session of the orientation program for the elected representatives was presided by Shri Ravi Budhiraja Chairman, Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority. Shri Budhiraja further set the theme for the program through his presentation on Impact of Climate Change on Urban India. On the second day, the Director of YASHADA Shri Anand Limaye presided over the opening session of the training program for the municipal officials. Dr Anjali Parasnis, Associate Director, TERI Western Regional Centre delivered the Welcome Address and introduced the participants to the TERI-APN program , TERI’s work on urban resilience and TERI’s activities in Maharashtra.
The training program sensitized the elected representatives and the municipal officials on the issues and impacts related to climate change and the importance of adaptation interventions for the urban areas. The participants were awarded with a certificate upon completion of the program.
