Green chemistry is a tool that deals with risk reduction and pollution prevention by addressing the intrinsic hazards of the substances. Concepts like inherently safe design of reactions and substitution of hazardous chemicals or those that pose a high risk are involved in it. More attention is required in the whole manufacturing process and life cycle of both products and waste. Green chemistry is applicable to all aspects of the life cycle of the product. To achieve the goal for a sustainable future, chemistry must be integrated with other disciplines. In particular, it is imperative that chemists, biologists and engineers work together to develop new sustainable processes. Although industry is substantially progressing, and technology and tools required making chemical manufacturing more sustainable are available, but much more can be accomplished for environmental remediation.
Conference details
Royal Society of Chemistry London, North India Section, Green Chemistry Network Centre and The Energy & Resources Institute together look forward to welcoming you to New Delhi, India for the 5th Asia-Oceania Conference on Green and Sustainable Chemistry (AOC GSC-5) on 15-17th January, 2015 to discover and discuss the ‘Capabilities’ of Green Chemistry for a Sustainable future.
The conference will be a multidisciplinary event encompassing all the major areas of green chemistry, including green synthesis processes, green nanoscience & technology, catalysis & biocatalysis, biobased products, waste valorization, environmentally benign solvents, green chemistry education, and many other interesting topics. Interfaces with other sciences and other research areas will be actively encouraged. Special attention will also be given to the pivotal roles of green chemistry in fast-growing economies and promotion of green chemistry network.
AOC series and its importance
This international event is 5th in a series of successful meetings on Green and Sustainable Chemistry. Since the onset of AOC-1 in Tokyo (2007), there has been a tradition of associating a broad theme to the entire conference each year namely-“Expansion” in Beijing AOC-2 (2009), “Innovations” in Melbourne AOC-3 (2011), “Opportunities” in Taiwan AOC-4 (2013). Continuing this custom, the theme for this year has been decided as “Capabilities”. This theme has been selected to unveil the potentials of green chemistry principles and to demonstrate the capabilities of Green Chemistry for a sustainable future.
