Energy implications of Water use and pollution control in Textile industries - A case study of Tirupur

The textile industry is one of the largest consumers of water around the globe. Cotton production and processing is known to be water intensive and at the same time it affects the quality of water. The textile industry in Tirpur has undergone a significant transformation over the decades, from a few hosiery units in the early 1900s to becoming a prominent cluster of small and medium scale textile enterprises. These industries consume a significant amount of water for the processing of cotton; which in turn affects the energy demand of the region. The paper analyses the different steps in textile manufacturing for their water consumption and associated energy implications. The paper also highlights the trade off in terms of water pollution control initiatives and its influence on overall energy consumption.

Climate Change–Water–Energy Nexus - A Synthesis of Understanding

This book is a synthesis of analysis carried out for quantifying water-energy nexus in four selected states across the country. All the selected four states were vulnerable states in each of the four geographical zones and were selected for quantification of the intricate nexus using a unique approach. The book also presents other aspects of water-energy nexus which includes policy and institutional analysis to understand the implications of present policies and programs on the water-energy nexus. Based on the in-depth analysis of various aspects of nexus, the book also provides some strategic recommendations for harmonizing the nexus.

An assessment of vulnerability to water-energy nexus for Indian states

This paper deals with the description of an approach used to select vulnerable states in India in terms of water and energy. Quantitative assessment was done to estimate the degree of vulnerability posed by each state to the nexus The assessment considered water demand for all the primary sectors including domestic, industrial, agriculture and energy production. Based on the detailed assessment, vulnerable states were identified and some of these states were selected for further in-depth analysis of water-energy nexus.
