TERI, as part of the Transformative Climate Action, using participatory data-driven decision-making platforms (T-CAP) project conducted a series of discussions with stakeholders of the project from 30th January to 1st February 2024 in Vishakhapatnam. The series of stakeholders included—the Sustainability and Resilience Unit (SRU); Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC); City Operations Centre (COC); Chief Urban Planner, Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA); NASSCOM Centre of Excellence IoT and AI at Andhra University; Vulnerable Community Representatives, Ward Secretaries, GVMC; Residential Welfare Association (RWA) Members, Tirumala Nagar; Sachivalayam Ward Volunteers, GVMC; and Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The objective was to engage in conversation, gather inputs, and discuss the Vizag-Prajamukhi Urban Living Lab (V-PULL) structure and application (use case) with pertinent stakeholders.

| TERI conducts thematic session on ‘A Roadmap for Mainstreaming Inclusive Climate Action Planning in Urban Landscapes’ under the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2024 |

TERI conducted a thematic session on ‘A roadmap for mainstreaming inclusive climate action planning in urban landscapes’, under TERI’s annual flagship programme, the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS), as part of the ‘Integrated Urban Climate Action for Low-Carbon and Resilient Cities (Urban-Act)’ project. Held on 8th February 2024 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi the session’s keynote address was presided over by Mr Shri Prakash, a Distinguished Fellow at TERI outlining the challenges of climate change, emphasizing historical changes and the need for urban planning to address uncertainties. Following the keynote address Mr Sebastian Markart, Senior Advisor at GIZ introduced the project Urban-ACT, which aims to support low-carbon and resilient urban development aligned with national climate change targets.
The session was moderated by Mr Sanjay Seth, Senior Director, Sustainable Infrastructure Programme, TERI. The panellists included Ms Debolina Kundu, Acting Director, the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA); Dr Renu Khosla, Director, Centre for Urban and Regional Excellence (CURE) India; Dr Meenakshi Dhote, Dean (Academics), School of Planning & Architecture, Delhi; and Shri R Srinivas, Retired, Town and Country Planning Organization (TCPO), Consultant Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The discussions underscored the importance of creating a roadmap for urban development that acknowledges the population’s diverse needs while addressing the complexities of climate change adaptation and mitigation.

TERI with support from the Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, conducted a panel discussion, as knowledge partners, on ‘Decarbonizing Freight in India: Turning Ambition to Action’ as part of WSDS on 8th February 2024. The session was moderated by Mr Sanjay Seth, Senior Director, Sustainable Infrastructure Programme. The panellists included Mr Chhatrasal Singh, Additional Member (Traffic), Railway Board, Ministry of Railways; Mr Sanjay Bajpai, Executive Director (Strategic Planning, Customs and Distribution Logistics), CONCOR; Mr Ramesh Kumar Verma, Deputy Secretary, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry; Mr Saurabh Diddi, Director, BEE, Ministry of Power; Mr Narayankumar Sreekumar, Associate Director – Electric Mobility Program, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation; and Ms Chetna Nagpal, Senior Associate, RMI India.

| TERI organizes ‘Electrify and Connect’ meet at the TERI GRAM campus |

TERI organized ‘Electrify and Connect’ at TERI GRAM campus with EV owners from Delhi NCR and international delegates, involving insightful discussions and exchange of ideas about the latest trends and opportunities in zero emissions vehicles. The engagement saw participation from 50+ EV owners across Delhi-NCR, who drove their EVs to the TERI GRAM campus at Gwal Pahari. Dr Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI, shared TERI’s journey and commitments towards low and zero-carbon technologies, particularly focusing on the mobility sector. She announced TERI’s initiative to install EV charging stations at the TERI Gram campus. Delegates from prestigious organizations like the California Air Resources Board, Climate Works Foundation, and The International Council on Clean Transportation shared invaluable experiences and initiatives from their countries, highlighting the pivotal role EVs play in advancing clean mobility.

TERI presented a paper on Urban Living Labs: A Platform for Managing Disasters and Urban Climate Action – Coastal Cities in India online at the Urban Innovation Conference held between 1st and 3rd March 2024. The paper was presented by Ms Anushree Harde, Research Associate and Ms Himanshi Sharma, Research Associate, in an online format. The Urban Innovation Conference brought together academicians, researchers, practitioners, government, and civic society to collaborate and share ideas on cutting-edge urban innovation theory and practice to foster knowledge creation. Innovations include all initiatives by various stakeholders to enhance processes for improving the liveability of urban centres and achieving a just society. The paper highlighted the unique challenges faced by coastal cities in India and explored and recommended data-driven innovation in urban planning for disaster management through a living lab approach.

| TERI collaborates with the Department of Science and Technology under Mission Innovation 2.0 for Advancing Clean Energy with Data |

TERI moderated a discussion on the status of data related to Research, Development, and Demonstration (RD&D) in Clean Energy on 21st March 2024. TERI is actively engaged in Mission Innovation 2.0, collaborating with the Department of Science and Technology to harness the power of data for clean energy development. Mr Sharif Qamar, Associate Director, TERI moderated the discussion, which saw participation from key stakeholders including ministries, departments, PSUs, and Government of India-supported institutions. With the development of standardized frameworks for data collection and reporting on RD&D expenditures at the Central Government level, the aim is to foster transparency and coherence in documenting formal expenditures directed towards RD&D initiatives, ultimately fortifying the foundation for innovation and sustainable development in the clean energy sector.

| TERI participates in the IKI India Networking Workshop as part of the TCAP project and Climate Talk at the German Embassy |

TERI participated in the IKI India Networking Workshop held from 6th–7th March 2024 at Hyatt Regency Delhi, followed by Climate Talk at the German Embassy on 6th March 2024. The networking workshop was designed to draw synergies across multiple projects being executed in the country by IKI and integrate them on a single platform. TERI was represented by Ms Shiren Pandita, Area Convenor, Transport and Urban Governance Division, TERI where the key areas of work, priorities, and challenges of the TCAP project were discussed along with other IKI-funded projects in India. TERI has collaborated with IKI on Transforming Climate Action using participatory data-driven decision-making Platform (TCAP), which is being funded by the IKI Secretariat on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
