About Power Sector Modelling for 2030

The study provides a detailed analysis of the operation of the power system in 2030 under different scenarios for production capacities, supply-side flexibility, storage, and transmission. The objective is to outline what is required to take the share of variable renewable energy (VRE) to levels greater than 30% by 2030, and the share of zero carbon generation (i.e. VRE plus nuclear, biomass and hydro) to greater than 40%


The seven Scenarios for which visualizations are available are summarized in the table below. Further information and detailed assumptions in the scenario design can be found in the accompanying technical report, available here

There are 2 separate sub-tabs to visualize the results under the Results Page namely ‘Generation Stack Plot’ and ‘Dynamic Power Flow Map Generation Stack Plot: Hourly generation from various fuels and battery storage for each scenario as mentioned above can be viewed here. Some of the salient features under this tab are as follows:

  1. Generation stack plots at All India level and a feature to view state-wise dispatch.
  2. Option to select particular month and day to visualize results.
  3. Option to download results for a particular day for a selected scenario.

Power Flow Map: Under this section, the user can visualize the power flows across interstate boundaries on an hourly basis. Some of the salient features under this tab are as follows.

  1. Select scenario-wise power flow across states at hourly basis.
  2. Feature to visualize Conventional and RE generators together with battery storage in a pie format with upper half of pie representing share of generators in a state and lower half of pie representing state demand at hourly basis in the map.
  3. Monthly summary for plant capacity factors, curtailment from VRE generators, peak demand, energy requirement and unserved load, if any.
  4. A scale to represent quantum of power flows and generation

In the interest of making this work as widely useful as possible, TERI is making available for free download in csv format the hourly results data for every state, generator and hour in every scenario. To access this facility, please go to the Downloads tab. The conditions of download and use of this data are as follows: The data is available under a Public License, adapted from the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License. You are allowed to use, adapt and modify the scenario data, and to publish results based on the scenario data. You are allowed to share and raw or visualized form parts of the scenario data. However, you are not allowed to republish (i.e. make available for download or otherwise redistribute) the entire data or a substantial part of the data.
