is TERI?
TERI is a dynamic and flexible research organization with a global
vision and a local focus. Established in 1974, it is a unique developing country
institution, which works towards global sustainable development by creating
innovative solutions for a better tomorrow. The current staff-strength of TERI is over 700, drawn from multi-disciplinary and
highly specialized fields.
How
is TERI funded?
TERI sustains itself largely through project-based activities (figures
below); the projects themselves are undertaken for multilateral and bilateral
agencies (UN organizations, the World Bank, etc.), departments and ministries
in the Government, foundations (Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, etc.)
and the corporate sector.

What
is TERI’s competence in the water sector?
The Water Resources Policy and Management (WRPM) group in TERI comprises
a multi-disciplinary team of engineers (civil, chemical, environmental, and
water resources), geologists, architects, planners, scientists, economists,
and sociologists. The thrust areas of the group include:
• Water availability and quality modeling and impact assessment
• Socio-economic analysis vis-à-vis water management
• Water systems efficiency
• Policy, institutional, and regulatory reforms
• Watershed planning

is TERI’s relationship with Coca Cola?
The total support received from Coca Cola in the last four years
for project based activities and event sponsorships amounts to 0.3% (2001-02),
0.08 % (2002-03), 0.0% (2003-04) and 0.05% (2004-05) of the annual total revenues
of TERI in these years. Coca Cola is one amongst 69 members of the TERI–Business
Council for Sustainable Development (BCSD), India.
What
is TERI-BCSD?
The TERI-BCSD is a platform for corporate leaders to address issues related
to sustainable development; and promote leadership in environmental management,
social responsibility, and economic performance. TERI–BCSD India is
a partner of the WBCSD (World Business Council for Sustainable Development),
Geneva and a member of its regional network
What
role does the Steering Committee play in the study?
An independent Steering Committee has been constituted to oversee the entire
study and provide strategic direction to the assessment process. The Committee,
comprising of a broad based group of experts having in-depth knowledge of
the issues involved, meets periodically to review processes, work completed
and provide guidance on segments of the assessment to be concluded.
What
is the role of Meridian Institute in the assessment?
TERI has been contracted by Meridian
Institute to undertake the study. Their role is to serve as an independent
third party to provide neutral oversight of and facilitation services for
TERI's study of Coca Cola plant sites in India.
How
does the study take community perceptions on board?
The TERI study team interacts exhaustively with stakeholders likely to influence/be
impacted by an activity and documents all perceptions expressed during these
interactions; these perceptions will form a part of the report.
